For today’s #SundaySpotlight, the Lafourche Schools Spotlight is on Sarah Williams.

Sarah is currently an itinerant ESL teacher working with students at Golden Meadow Elementary School, Golden Meadow Middle School and Lockport Middle School. Prior to that, she was an ELA teacher at North Larose Elementary School and has been a valued employee of the Lafourche Parish School District for nine years

She graduated from South Lafourche High School and summa cum laude from Nicholls State University with a bachelor of science in elementary education and a master of education in school leadership. She was named Outstanding Student Teacher of the Year as an undergraduate at NSU.

“Sarah brings an incredibly positive attitude to everything she does. Her enthusiasm, reliability, and support make her a true asset to the English Language Program,” said Kelly Kimball, the District’s EL/Migrant Coordinator. “She is a team player and consistently contributes to a welcoming productive learning environment. We are truly blessed to have her on our team!

One of the things Sarah enjoys most in her position is the other dedicated people she gets to work with.

“What I enjoy most is being part of a team that shares the same heart for kids,” she said. “Collaborating with colleagues to help ALL students thrive is one of the most fulfilling parts of my job.”

Sarah has recently taken her passion for children and literacy to a new level. Inspired by the students she teaches, she has added another title to her resume’: children’s book author. Sarah has released two books in “The Adventures of Honey the Golden” series based on her own furry best friend. Her mission in penning her books is clear: to spark kindness, build confidence, and inspire a lifelong love of reading through storytelling.

“The books spread the message of the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated,” she said.

“Mrs. Williams proves that a teacher's impact extends far beyond the classroom, inspiring both students and the entire school community with the magic of their words," said Amber Guidry, Sarah's previous principal at NLES.

Sarah’s first two books, “Honey Learns the Golden Rule” and “The Lying Lion,” were released this summer to a receptive audience. “Honey Learns the Golden Rule” quickly became Amazon's #1 New Release in children's social skills within the first 24 hours.

Throughout their careers, teachers experience countless heartwarming moments that leave a lasting impact, but for Sarah, one in particular stands out.

“A moment I will never forget is when a student told me their favorite book was ‘Honey the Golden,’ not even knowing it was MY BOOK!” she shared. “Seeing their face light up when I told them I was the author was a moment I will never forget! Knowing something I created meant something to a child reminded me exactly why I teach and write.”

Sarah shared that Honey’s third adventure will be a Christmas story with a release date of Nov. 1. We can’t wait to see what Sarah and Honey accomplish next!

Please join us in thanking Sarah for her nine years of dedicated service to the children of the Lafourche Parish School District and for sharing her gift of storytelling and passion for literacy through her books.
